Etsy Inc. has elevated its vice president of engineering to the position of chief technology officer.
Rachana Kumar will succeed Mike Fisher, who has opted to leave the online marketplace firm to spend more time with his family and pursue other interests, on January 1. Fisher will continue to work as an advisor for Etsy (Nasdaq: Etsy) until April 2023.
Kumar will be headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, and will report to Etsy CEO Josh Silverman.
She has been with Etsy for almost eight years, where she has held positions in product development, mobile and app penetration, and buyer growth. She also just opened Etsy’s regional office in Mexico City, where the local team has grown to 130 people in 18 months.
“When I first joined in 2014, the Etsy marketplace had less than 20 million active shoppers. “There are now over 88 million,” Kumar remarked. “Supporting that growth has necessitated the expansion of our personnel, the scaling of our systems, and the use of cutting-edge technology.””
Kumar has a bachelor’s degree from Bengaluru’s RV College of Engineering and a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University. She also co-founded an organization in India to reduce food waste.
Etsy Inc.’s portfolio includes the fashion resale marketplace Depop, the musical instrument marketplace Reverb, and the handmade products marketplace Elo7 in Brazil, all of which operate independently while benefitting from common experience in product, marketing, technology, and customer service.
