BROOKLYN, New York, October 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Rachana Kumar, Etsy’s Vice President of Engineering, has been named Chief Technology Officer, effective January 1, 2023. Etsy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ETSY), which operates two-sided online marketplaces that connect millions of passionate and creative buyers and sellers around the world, announced today that Rachana Kumar, Etsy’s Vice President of Engineering, has been named Chief Technology Officer, effective January 1, 2023. Etsy’s current Chief Technology Officer, Mike Fisher, has opted to depart in order to spend more time with his family and explore other interests. Mike will continue in his present post until December 31, 2022, after which he will join Etsy as an adviser until April 20, 2023.
Chief Executive Officer of Etsy, Inc. Josh Silverman stated, “I am delighted to congratulate Rachana on this well-deserved promotion, which is a testament to her leadership, her exceptional track record of accomplishments, and the followership she has earned across Etsy; and reflects our deep bench of talent. Rachana has shown an exceptional ability to manage complicated projects, harness new technology to increase our pace and performance, and act as a coach and mentor to her colleagues. I’d also want to thank Mike, commonly known as ‘Fish’ internally, for guiding Etsy through a time of development and growth over the previous five years. He is an exceptional leader whose influence extends well beyond extending our technical infrastructure and establishing a world-class staff. He has fostered an environment of creativity and inclusivity, led with optimism, and acted as a trusted thinking partner to me and other Etsy executives.”
Rachana has worked with Etsy for over eight years and is now the Vice President of Engineering. During her employment, she has taken the lead on crucial projects such as developing Etsy’s product development principles, expanding mobile and app penetration, and driving buyer growth. Rachana recently extended her work to include the creation of Etsy’s regional office in Mexico City, where she grew the team to roughly 130 people in only 18 months.
Rachana Kumar said, “When I first joined the Etsy marketplace in 2014, there were less than 20 million active purchasers; now, there are over 88 million. To support that expansion, we had to increase our employees, scale our systems, and apply cutting-edge machine learning to enhance the user experience. I am looking forward to continuing on this adventure as we employ technology to generate economic empowerment possibilities for our sellers while also nurturing our diverse global community.”
Mike Fisher said, “I am pleased to have been a part of what the Etsy team has done in the last five years. I am convinced that Rachana and the Etsy team will not skip a beat in carrying out our ambitious plan and furthering our aim of making commerce human.”
Rachana will report to Etsy CEO Josh Silverman and will join Etsy’s executive team. She will be stationed in Etsy’s Brooklyn, NY headquarters.
